This project looks at the otherness, performativity and extractiveness of the vampire. It deploys mediums associated with filmic SFX and signage to unpack traces of the undead through evolving perspectives drawn from academic monster theory.
Satirising the imposed diasporic trope of childhood memories, this suite of works draws from representations of the devil in visual culture to accomodate Ramírez’ wider preoccupations.
looks at apparitions of the Virgin Mary in states of emergency to reflect on our contemporary world.
Performing his writing in literary and contemporary art contexts is an increasingly large component of Ramírez’ output.
